To really grasp the power of this book you must understand that the prodigal son story is a metaphor that Jesus used to reinforce God's relationship with His children. The Father being God and the son being us. The bible is clear that "The earth is the Lords and everything in it". The bible is also clear that as sons we are heirs and joint heirs with Christ. So, no matter how far off the son strayed, no matter how long he stayed, he was still on his daddy's property and if it is his daddy's property and he is heir then it's his property too. So, if he was hungry, hurting and homeless, He was homeless in his own backyard.
