18-year-old Lani dreamed that her boyfriend Harv stepped on a landmine in Vietnam and died. When his coffin came home she sneaked in and opened it. It wasn't him: it was a black man. Who was he? Where was Harv? She began a search that took her to San Francisco's Letterman Hospital, Haight-Ashbury, Chinatown, and to the Oakland ghetto.
